On August 27 2019, our team of race directors completed a Basic Life Support training course with Clive ( Level 3 First Aider and experienced First Aid Instructor ), from Team Medic. To practise as responsible event organisers, it is imperative that staff hold valid first aid qualifications because every second matters in saving lives. The aat team hold First Aid qualifications which are valid for 3 years, but this 3-hour course served as an excellent additional refresher course ahead of our major mass-participation running race – Guildford 10k on 13 October.

The BLS training course consisted of both theoretical and practical work aimed to equip our team of race directors with the skills required to effectively deal with unresponsive casualties. The variety of scenarios covered were those most likely to occur at major sporting and community events – eg breathing and non-breathing casualties following possible cardiac arrest. The team were required to demonstrate correct procedures for arriving at an emergency scene, conducting a primary survey, secondary assessment and resuscitation (CPR and Defibrillator training).

Ensuring your staff have a basic level of first aid could enable you to help someone that you know. View all Team Medic courses here to find the most suitable course for your needs.
