With still over a month to go until the start gun fires at The Hogs Back Road Race, places at this year’s event have almost sold out. With over 900 runners already signed up to the UKA-affiliated race, the run is expected to sell out at the end of this week. If you want to race, please enter now!
On 10th December 2017, the 57th installment of this historic fundraising event will welcome over 1000 runners to it’s majestic start line at Loseley House in Guildford. Guildford and Godalming Athletics Club (GGAC) is the beneficiary of the race – which is delivered by award-winning organisers aat-events.
In recognition of the event’s increasing popularity, a number of exciting new features have been added to the race for 2017:
Event partners Fitstuff – Guildford’s premier running shop – are giving runners the opportunity to trial ON running trainers at the event. The trainers, described as “the world’s most comfortable performance shoes”, feature a revolutionary and award-winning design. Instead of “correcting” gait like many other specialist trainers, ON shoes support the individual’s natural running movement via their patented CloudTec® cushioning. Various styles and sizes of ON trainers will be available to trial and purchase on the day from Fitstuff on a “first come, first served” basis.
Also new for the upcoming race is The Hogs Back Road Race pacing team. To help runners asses their performance along the unusual 11.7km distance – which amazingly forms the shape of a “Hog” (view route), a number of experienced pacers will be running at 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6 and 6.5min/km. One of the UK’s top pacers, Paul Addicott, is on the team this year. He and the rest of the team will be providing fantastic support and expert race knowledge for those chasing their PBs.
And if that’s not enough, event sponsors Wilkins Kennedy will be providing a fuel station roughly 5km into the 11.7km race as well. They will be handing out jelly beans and sugary sweets to refuel runners at the top of a steep hill (More on this can be found here).
Lucy Air Ambulance is a new charity partner for the event this year. They are the only charity in the UK who can transfer patients (up to the age of 16) across the length and breadth of the UK via fixed-wing aircraft – at no cost to their families. Runners have donated an incredible £500 so far to fund their life-saving work.
The event holds the British Association of Road Running “Gold Award” and the “Top Rated Event” badge on racecheck. All runners receive a cheeky pig medal and complimentary refreshments, and can treat themselves to award-winning Giggly Pig sausage baps, hot drinks from Cafe2U, sports massage by Guildford Sports Clinic, and Hogs Back Road Race “buffs” – proceeds of which go to GGAC. Sponsors Hogs Back Brewery and Fitstuff are providing very welcome prizes to the first few finishers.
Those wanting to take part are urged to secure one of the limited race places as soon as possible.
